Adams & Moore
"All of our designs are developed and made in-house"
“I’m always in constant motion and design is always on my mind,” says Chloe Webster, designer at Adams & Moore.
From the minds behind premium reupholstery specialists Asnew Upholstery – Chloe alongside long-standing business partners Gary Morley and Jeremy Adamberry – Adams & Moore have drawn on their 35 years of experience to create a collection of stunning bespoke furniture in their workshop in Abingdon.
They’ve come a long way since Gary began upholstering furniture in his garage for neighbours. “I began to get so busy that I bought a unit, and the business has grown from there,” he explains. “I attended Herefordshire & Ludlow Technical College to complete a master’s degree in traditional upholstery, receiving distinction. I met Jeremy in 1999 and we now employ over 20 members of staff. It’s been a fantastic journey so far and we are proud of the premises we are now in, as well as the niche service we can provide.”
The service Gary mentions is indeed unique to the local area. Using their eye for design and the skills of their 20-strong workforce, the team create a range of made-to-order sofas, armchairs, dining chairs, stools, headboards, ottomans, beds, soft furnishings and homewares, alongside hand-sewn, made-to-measure curtains and a collection of accessories. Gary describes the difference in service that his team aim to deliver with each order:
“Unlike most furniture showrooms, here at Adams & Moore you can look through into the workshop and see exactly where we create our beautiful furniture. All of our designs are developed and made in-house, meaning you are getting a truly bespoke product you can trust. We only use the fi nest quality beech frames and are proud that we can create furniture based on clients' drawings and pictures at very reasonable prices.”
All Adams & Moore products can be customised to specific requirements, allowing the client to choose the ideal size, cushion fillings, leg style, fabrics and finishes. The company even take commissions based on photographs or drawings. If the customer loves a piece of furniture because, for example, it has a supportive back or simply fits perfectly into their living spaces, these ideas can be made reality.
The Adams & Moore design studio boasts one of Oxfordshire’s largest collections of fabric, trimmings and wallpaper, sourced from leading fabric designers as well as smaller, specialist companies hand-picked by the team. Chloe and Gary can also provide home visits to accurately plan a product and visualise it in the space in which it will sit for years to come – backed up by a 15 year guarantee against any manufacturing fault.
As for the product designs themselves, the range of silhouettes include classic, traditional models alongside beautiful contemporary designs, named after their local heritage – cast your eye on the Milton chair, Ardington ottoman and Woodstock sofa.
“My favourite piece from the collection so far is the Bayworth Ottoman,” says Gary. “The handcrafted, deep-buttoned footstools are often admired in a living space. Here we have used a neutral base fabric from Andrew Martin International with contrast buttons in various colours.”
Chloe would opt for the Tubney chair, a design which she first proposed. “It looks incredible in de Le Cuona Expedition fabric with the fluted back. We also had a lot of fun using a Christian Lacroix fabric on the plain version, which shows off the pattern so much. It features a curved back and ample seating space – an inviting chair that does not require a large amount of space.”
Aside from the eye-catching designs and bespoke construction, Gary emphasises the importance of taking clients through every step of the process:
“It’s incredibly important to us to provide interior design service to help our clients. We off er consultations in client’s homes and can personalise every project from our studio. In 2017, we’re looking forward to hosting events in our showroom across the year, and we will also be launching new pieces of furniture which we are very excited about.”
If you’re looking for some furniture to re-energise your home at the start of the year, you’d be hard pressed to find a more committed and complete service in Oxfordshire. Find further details at Adams-Moore.co.uk.
