Avondale Care Home in Aylesbury, part of the Porthaven Care Homes group, has built an excellent reputation locally for its expertise in nursing and dementia care for older people in our community.
But more recently, the home’s reputation was raised to a national level as Shaun Canavan, Avondale’s Manager was recognised as the best care manager in the UK at the 16th National Care Awards!
Shaun’s win was announced at a prestigious gala dinner to celebrate the Awards. Held in London at the end of last year, and hosted by husband and wife TV duo, Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford, the event was attended by over 800 people from the care sector. Shaun demonstrated to the panel of independent judges his energy, dedication and passion for care as well as being able to instil these qualities in his team at Avondale, which has around 90 residents and 150 staff.
Both the Porthaven care homes in our area, the other being Chiltern Grange in Stokenchurch, have also received other awards for things like organised resident activities and specialist interior design.
Sean Kime, a director of Porthaven commented “Porthaven and the team at Avondale are immensely proud of Shaun and that his work has been recognised in this way. Shaun is always modest about his contribution but on this occasion we think it’s important to put in the spotlight his work for the benefit of our residents.”
Porthaven are also currently building a third brand new care home in Buckinghamshire, Woodland Manor, located in Chalfont St. Peter and due to open in the Autumn of 2015.
