Bampton Garden Plants Café

Taste buds watering from the onset, a rustic and warm feel, a fabulous hidden gem of an independent coffee shop
Today cumin spiced sweet potato, leaving you with a desire to come back tomorrow for an alternative seasonal flavour

Located in West Oxfordshire just outside the Village of Bampton (famous as a Downton Abbey location to those of you that are hooked) on the Buckland Road, hidden inside a quaint plant centre and garden store, you will uncover a fabulous hidden gem of an independent coffee shop.

The café is housed in a tastefully converted shipping container, which would not look out of place in one of George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces. There is a wonderful rustic and warm feel to the interior; much of it designed from reclaimed material. The earthly aroma of the wood lingers and matches that of the wood roasted artisan coffee freshly prepared by trained Baristas, or ‘Coffee Artists’ as they like to be known.

The Cafe has a fine selection of worldwide teas and delicious selection of home baked cakes and pastries that get your taste buds watering from the onset; gooey chocolate triple tier cake, or moist carrot loaf with cream cheese frosting. The seasonal freshly made soups will warm you up on one of these cold and frosty winter days; today cumin spiced sweet potato, leaving you with a desire to come back tomorrow for an alternative seasonal flavour. An excellent sandwich board, with choices of goat’s cheese, rocket and red onion chutney or smoked salmon cream cheese on malted farmhouse bloomer and more fantastic taste combinations.

The ambience is relaxed and informal with subtle mood music in the background. It’s tempting to spend hours here ordering coffee after coffee, and with free Wi-Fi what more could you ask for. The café takes theatre to a new level as it looks out over the nursery where you can see the growers tending to their daily duties. It really is a magical spot and great to see a garden centre, within over 20 acres of land dedicated to onsite growing, aiming to be as sustainable as they can be.

The garden store itself has long been established, with a sensational offering of plants and related products, the prices are really reasonable and the friendly staff ready to give advice and direction on ones gardening needs. The place is full of temptation great for inspired shopping before a dash to the warmth of the café, a magnificent addition to Bampton Garden Plants and the local area.
