Bank Holiday Weekend at Woburn Safari Park
Woburn Safari Park Penguin Charity Weekend | 27th-30th May 2016
On the bank holiday weekend 27th-30th May, the Animal Encounters team at Woburn Safari Park will be holding a special charity weekend to raise money for the Punta San Juan Project in Peru, a marine reserve peninsula currently home to Peru's largest breeding population of Humboldt penguins.
Visitors will be able to get involved in lots of fun activities to help raise money and awareness for these beautiful birds, including raffles, lucky dips and special keeper talks and demonstrations taking place throughout the weekend.
Visitors can join in all the fun and activities at no extra cost to standard Park admission. The Animal Encounters successfully raised over £2,000 in 2015 for the Punta San Juan Project and are excited to support this project again this year.
The Punta San Juan Project in Peru works towards protecting the Humboldt penguin, sea lions, guano birds and sea otters. The aim of the project is to protect areas of guano reserves which are crucial to the Humboldt penguins breeding. Guano droppings are high in nitrates, meaning they're harvested every year to improve Peruvian agriculture. The project has now created a sustainable harvesting programme to allow farmers to harvest guano without directly affecting the breeding colonies of the Humboldt penguin and other sea birds.
Woburn Safari Park is open daily between 10am and 5pm. To find out more, or to book tickets, click here.
