Be Bold, Be Brave

Don’t be afraid to take a bold step. Take some risks. Let your home celebrate your passions

We are advised to fill our homes with personality, to not shy away from colour and definitely do not be afraid to make a statement. But this can be easier said than done

The world of interiors  is abuzz with fabulous creativity and extraordinary design and we are immersed with examples of  beautiful, traditional revamps  combined with breath-taking modern innovation.

Some of us however, may be a  little nervous  embarking  on a summer makeover so read on and let’s  guide you through some of the best ‘on trend’ styles that are featuring this season. Before doing anything however remember do not simply follow fashion. Your  home can quickly fall into the trap of looking too contrived. Let it evolve and keep a firm grip on your personal style. The best rule of thumb is to never let anything get over the threshold unless you absolutely love it, and never copy a new style completely. Your home should tell your story and consequently the most sought after looks  are those that are a subtle mix of styles, built up in layers over the years. And before doing anything else remove the items that have become tired. Rearrange the furniture and bring in some modern hints to revive what may be becoming a stale space. It will be worth the effort.

Interiors in general are very confident and self assured right now. We are advised to fill our homes with personality, to not shy away from colour and definitely do not be afraid to make a statement. But this can be easier said than done. So where do we begin?

One of our personal favourites is the love of all things tropical and jungle. This organic trend has been stamping a very dominant boot amongst wallpaper designers especially but this cross pollinates into the upholstery fabrics too. Take a look at exotic papers from Cole and Son, Sanderson and House of Hackney in particular. These designs aren’t for the faint hearted but don’t forget that you can isolate them to an alcove or chimney breast if you are feeling tentative and they will still bring drama and make bold gesture. The result will be flamboyant and decadent and be sure to accessorise this with lots of real foliage in the form of large potted plants to complete the look.

To compliment these exotic prints and bold patterns is the new love for tiles. We are so happy to see them back en vogue and reinventing Middle Eastern and Moorish interiors. Leading the way and offering the most superb selection is not surprisingly ‘Fired Earth’. There are plenty to choose from. Our only concern is that you wouldn’t know where to stop.

Lighting too has been experiencing a renaissance of late with a vast emporium of delicious lights to choose from. Mood lighting is crucial to the success of your decorating endeavours, and you bring this atmosphere by mixing up several layers. Never rely on one particular source as you will need at least three different types to achieve this. There is an incredible selection of statement lamps, wonderful, cheeky clusters of pendant lamps in glass or metal, beautiful scented candles and  fabulous beaded chandeliers to choose from, to mention just a few.

So. Just to reiterate-

Don’t be afraid to take a bold step. If you want a room to make you smile every time you enter it you will have to take some risks. Let your home celebrate your passions.

Be brave and take a huge leap of faith when it comes to showing who you are.
