Built in 1841 Cheltenham College is one of the oldest and most famous of the Victorian boarding schools offering an outstanding all-round education within a warm and vibrant community. The school is situated in 72 acres of beautiful grounds in the heart of the Cotswolds. The Prep School (3–13) occupies a stunning 15-acre woodland setting adjacent to the Senior School.
College retains its great sense of heritage, blended with a focus on cutting-edge contemporary education. From an extensive sports complex and acres of sports fields to theatres, a 19th century art gallery and a breath-taking chapel, the facilities at Cheltenham College are outstanding.
During the summer of 2014 a £2.5 million refurbishment of the Science Department was completed, providing College, once again, with state-of-the-art science facilities. John Jones, Head of Chemistry comments: “Our Science laboratories are once again cutting edge. The refurbished laboratories have transformed the student’s experience of practical science – they ensure that College can continue to put practical skills at the top of the science agenda.”
All pupils are stretched academically and go on to achieve their best in a positive and supportive learning environment. The curriculum is broad and purposeful, with lessons complemented by extensive school trips and over 30 clubs and societies. A wide range of GCSE and A-level subjects are offered. In 2014 College had their best ever GCSE and IGCSE results with 65% of all papers graded A* or A and nearly 80% of A-level results graded A*-B. Over 95% of pupils go on to the university of their choice, the majority of these to Russell Group Universities.
Founded on Christian principles and with a strong House system at its heart, Cheltenham College inspires loyalty, respect and integrity. Pastoral care is exceptional, with every pupil developing socially as well as academically. For boarders and day pupils alike, the warm and welcoming atmosphere in the Houses combined with close relationships with teachers makes school feel like a real home from home.
“College has given me everything I needed – supportive friendships and staff who had my interests at heart” (Current pupil).
