Feathers and spangles guaranteed to astound Oxford audiences
"La Cage Aux Folles opens at Oxford New Theatre on Thursday 5th January."
Originally from County Armagh, Northern Ireland, Gary McCann trained at Nottingham Trent University, and is now based in Greenwich, London.
His work has been exhibited at the V&A Museum in London twice – as part of the Collaborators and Transformation/Revelation exhibitions. Now Oxford residents have the opportunity to see his magnificent work live on stage during the first ever UK tour of the Tony and Olivier award winning La Cage Aux Folles.
Undoubtedly inspired by the lyrics of Harvey Fierstein and Jerry Herman’s musical, based on the 1973 French play of the same name by Jean Poiret, which include the lines “And ev'rything's sparkle dust, bugle beads, ostrich plums”. Gary McCann’s creations will be worn by Eastenders and Celebrity Big Brother star John Partridge, Grease 2 and T J Hooker’s Adrian Zmed and West End leading lady Marti Webb.
This show-stopping score includes ‘The Best of Times’, ‘Song on the Sand’ and the iconic ‘I Am What I Am’, which has been recorded by musical legends Gloria Gaynor, Shirley Bassey and Tony Bennett.
