Merton House Hotel was bought by the rotary club of Birmingham with funds raised in the clubs golden jubilee year of 1963-64 and opened in 1967 as Merton House Holiday Hotel, the hotel was specifically bought to provide holiday’s for the elderly frail and people with disabilities and continues to do so today.

The hotel is a registered charity and is still supported and managed by the rotary club of Birmingham. Over the years various fundraising campaigns by the Birmingham rotary club has resulted in the hotel being developed to accommodate 37 guests requiring the use of a wheelchair and a fabulous sun lounge and en-suite facilities in the bedrooms.

Merton House Hotel is a beautiful Georgian house located in the pretty market town of Ross-on-Wye, at the head of the beautiful Wye Valley the views from the garden overlook the River Wye and the black mountains of Wales.

 

Merton House is the ideal holiday hotel for those guests who for many reasons may feel the need to take a holiday in an environment where the staff are a little more understanding about the needs of the guests, Merton House Hotel prides itself for the understanding nature of all members of staff. The hotel has twenty bedrooms with the rooms in the main house fully en-suite.

The bedrooms on the ground floor wing are suited for wheelchair access. These rooms have shower wet rooms en-suite, and some have patio doors which give access to the garden. Additional aid equipment is also available and a lift is provided to all floors. Private car parking facilities are available as well.

The hotel is centrally heated throughout offering a warm and cosy environment with an attractive sun lounge overlooking the gardens where you can relax during the day and enjoy a drink and the entertainment during the evenings. Entertainment is provided 4 nights a week.

Lord Nelson and Lady Hamilton visited Ross on July 25th 1802 and spent some time strolling through the pleasure gardens of what is now the Merton House Hotel.

All holidays are half-board and Merton House takes pride in the traditional fare served in their charming dining room. Fully cooked breakfast and 3 course dinner all await you. A hot drink is also provided at bedtime and you can easily enjoy an early morning tea served early in your room.

Included in your holiday is a free excursion to one of the many attractive tourist spots around Ross-in-Wye in a specially adapted bus. Other excursions are also available during the week.

You need not worry about transport to and from the hotel as Merton House can provide it at an additional cost door to door transport including specially adapted vehicles to accommodate wheelchairs.

There are special packages available for tinsel and turkey weeks at Christmas and New Year.
