One of the Top 90 Schools in England
At Burford we teach students how to think, not what to think, and provide an environment that helps them to develop insight, judgement and character.
Academic achievement forms part of what makes Burford successful and the commitment of the staff, to help students achieve the best possible grades to enter the most appropriate university, is rewarded each summer with our GCSE and ‘A’ Level results.
The presence of just under a hundred boarders adds an additional dimension to life at Burford and enriches the lives of all members of the school.
Last October we were inspected by OFSTED and were judged to be ‘Good’ with ‘Outstanding’ for Leadership and Management and also for Behaviour and Safety of Pupils
The inspectors declared that ‘The achievement of the most able students is very strong in both Key Stages 3 and 4. They are hungry to learn and ambitious to do very well and behaviour is outstanding.’
Life at Burford is extremely busy and students enjoy a wide range of high quality opportunities in sport, music, drama, art and travel. This year, through our newly established ‘Institute of Music’, our musicians have attended workshops in Oxford alongside undergraduates from Oxford University. Bronze, Silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh Awards are all undertaken, with large numbers taking up this opportunity.
In addition our students compete successfully each year in national competitions in economics, accounting, textiles and business and take part in external debating and public speaking events.
The best way to understand life at Burford is by visiting us. We welcome visits, by appointment, on normal school working days or you are welcome to join us for our open evening.
