Oxford Castle Unlocked: Outside Guided Tour
Free Event. 11:00am, 1:00pm and 3:00pm. Pre-booking is advised
Climb the 900 year old Motte, site of the original Castle built in 1071. Descend into the 13th century Well chamber, deep in the heart of the mound. Hear stories about the 18th century prison.
Gather in the old Castle Bailey (courtyard) before you scale the Mound of the 11th century motte- and-bailey castle, and descend into the 13th century well chamber. The Mound will provide plenty of photo opportunities as you take in the spectacular views over the city. As you are led back down into the Castle Bailey you will see the prison D-Wing and Debtors’ Tower, and hear stories of the 18th century prison.
