This year Sobell House is marking 40 years of caring; OXHC have joined the Hospice’s 40 club, pledging to raise £10,000 over the next four years, here’s how you can help Sobell

1. All services are free

2. Provides care for people with a range of terminal conditions such as cancer, motor neurone, and severe respiratory problems

3. Provides support to around 3,000 people every year

4. The Hospice has an 18-bed inpatient unit providing care 24 hours a day, seven days a week

5. Supports 15 specialist community nurses

6. Today, one person in the UK dies every minute. Over the next 25 years, the number of deaths will increase by around 100,000 each year. That’s one more person dying every five minutes. Care for people reaching the end of their lives has never been more in demand

7. It costs £4 million a year to run the Hospice

8. 40 per cent of funding comes from donations and the rest is funded by the NHS

9. To operate effectively, the hospice needs to raise £4,300 every day

10. By 2033 there could be an extra 23,400 people aged 85+ in Oxfordshire. That’s more than double the number in 2008

How can you help Sobell?

There are many ways you can get involved including:

Making a personal donation by Direct Debit and becoming part of the Sobell House group of Partners.

Naming a clinic room and becoming one of the Founding Members of the new Sobell Clinic.

Doing a sponsored event for Sobell House on your own, with friends and family, or at work.

What do your donations buy?

£20 provides a session of art or music therapy for a patient or family member

£50 enables a social worker to help a patient return home

£150 pays for a full day of day services

£500 provides three visits by a homecare nurse

£1,000 is the cost of a syringe-driver to administer continuous pain relief

£1,250 provides a specialist bed hoist to lift patients

£2,000 is the cost of a recliner/riser chair
