‘Outstanding’ Unicorn School
The Unicorn School is a unique co-educational day school for dyslexic, dyspraxic and dyscalculic children, and those who need support with Speech and Language, from 6-14 years of age. Our recent Ofsted inspection awarded the school an ‘outstanding’ in all areas.
All our teachers are specialists in working with dyslexia and related difficulties, equipping our pupils with the strategies for learning that will enable them to succeed in their future education and beyond. We teach each child in the way that they learn best. We teach differently because our children learn differently and we tailor our lessons to the child rather than adopting a one-size-fits-all approach. Teaching here is very multi-sensory, and our specialist IT lab is key to all subject teaching. Our teaching rooms are fitted with computers and interactive whiteboards. We offer Speech & Language Therapy and Occupational Therapy on-site.
The school has a nurturing, family atmosphere, which we believe is crucial to our success. Our approach builds the self-esteem and confidence that children need as an essential foundation for learning. Current provision is for pupils up to the age of 14 years, and we plan to offer GCSE education from September 2016.
Unicorn pupils have a wide, varied educational experience outside the classroom as well as in it. All are offered the opportunity to go on residential trips both abroad and in the UK. We make frequent visits to local museums and beyond, this autumn our pupils joined the festivities at the historic Michaelmas Fair in Abingdon-on-Thames, and returned muddy and exuberant from den-building expeditions to Forest School. We provide a broad range of sporting experiences during the school day including sailing, swimming, golf, badminton and team games. Our after school clubs include sport, shooting, Lego, IT, cooking and art. Music is taught as a foundation subject and additional tuition in guitar and drumming is provided by our visiting music tutors.
We are always pleased to show you around our school and discuss your child’s needs. To arrange a visit or to join us at our open day on Tuesday 17 March, please call us on 01235 530222, or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
