The Big Draw

Landscapes at Oxford Castle. Why is drawing still important to us in 2014, and how do we make use of it?
Over 1000 events will be held across the UK during the month-long festival

Join O3 Gallery and Oxford Castle Unlocked for the Big Draw 2014 between 11am and 4pm on 11th October, and share your creative visions as a colourful creation.

Collect your brightly coloured chalk from the O3 Gallery and seek your inspiration from O3 Gallery’s Porthleven: A Peripatetic Encounter where artists have been inspired by the physical act of walking the landscape. With chalk in hand visitors will then be invited to find a drawing space on the paving stones in Oxford Castle Unlocked’s Castle Yard and make their mark. Drawings which include castles (and their inhabitants!) will be welcomed. This is an exciting opportunity to think about the role drawing plays in our lives today. Why is drawing still important to us in 2014, and how do we make use of it? At the end of the day one drawing will be chosen by O3 Gallery and Oxford Castle Unlocked, with the winner receiving a selection of art supplies.

An event masterminded by independent charity The Campaign for Drawing, The Big Draw has a different theme every year for the novice artists to interpret in their creations. Over 1000 events will be held across the UK during the month-long festival, with this year’s theme set as ‘Draw Tomorrow’.
