The Broad Street Dancers & CUTAZZ
Varsity Dance Competition on 27th February is a showcase of original choreography, diverse dance styles and musical interpretation, the competition promises to be a spectacle of showmanship
Nothing but the most enthralling dances make the cut, with intricate choreography, innovative ideas and raw passion to try and win over the hearts and minds of the audience, as well as impress the judges. Dance styles are hugely varied, from the grounded contractions of street dance to the gracefulness of the ballet pieces, and the high energy, fast-paced commercial jazz numbers. The competition will end with the hotly-anticipated freestyle dance-off, improvised on the spot by individual troupe members in the quest for glory.
The Broad Street Dancers from Oxford and CUTAZZ from Cambridge are student-run troupes, with members of the troupes choreographing and teaching all the dances performed in the competition. Each troupe is affiliated with their respective universities, with the members coming from all across Oxford and Cambridge to participate. Judged by professionally qualified dancers, the vast collective experience of each troupe in dance training and dance competitions will be put to the test. Spurred on by the hopes and dreams of taking home the coveted Varsity Dance Trophy, the performances at this competition are not to be missed.
