The George Hotel
There is no getting round the fact that winter is almost here. The hunt for the perfect beer garden is over and now all you want is a comforting drink in a warm and relaxing pub. If you find yourself in Wallingford and in need of such comforts, then head to The George Hotel.
The beautiful ancient beams, comfortable furniture and the log fire make The George Hotel a perfect place to come and warm your toes. Whether it’s for a morning coffee or afternoon tea (of which there is a great selection) there is always a welcoming air at the Tavern Bar. You will also find a great selection of real ales and good beers to accompany a range of traditional hot and cold pub meals too. The George Hotel also includes the Wealh's Restaurant and Bistro offering morning coffees, lunches and traditional afternoon teas.
The hotel building is believed to have been the dower house to the castle, with beautiful remains of the great structure still at the rear. Later in life it became a notable coaching inn which opened its doors to weary travelers, much like it does today. One story says that Dick Turpin, the famous highwayman, escaped the law at the hotel. There are also more tales this age-old building has of punters from the past. If only the walls could talk!
The George is also an ideal venue for a Christmas lunch.
From a special evening out with a few friends to a work Christmas do, The George can offer a traditional meal with all the festive trimmings.
And if you want to make a night of it, The George is also a fantastic place to stay. Accommodation at The George Hotel is comfortable, warm, inviting, and full of character and charm. The hotel has retained much of its 16th century roots whilst still providing modern accommodation to all guests. The George Hotel has undergone some extension to house a total of 39 attractively decorated rooms all equipped with the facilities you would expect to find in a four star hotel.
And don’t forget when you are on a Christmas shopping trip to call in for sandwiches and paninis, bar food and traditional favourites like fish and chips.
