The new Q30 with its bold looks and elevated stance whilst still being sleek and sporty is a great opportunity for Infiniti to wow people who may be currently driving The Mercedes A-Class or BMW 1 series.

There is room in the back for 2 maybe 3 small adults or 3 kids.

 

I drove the 2.2 AWD Duel-clutch Transmission Sport City Black in metallic Graphite Shadow, with 170 bhp and four-wheel drive system. The DCT makes delays in transmission a thing of the past, the result is smooth as silk gear changes and an offering of clean pure power. The 2.2d Diesel I tested is only available in DCT, as is the 2.0t petrol version. If it’s manual transmission you’re after try the 1.6t Petrol or 1.5d Diesel.

On the motorway the 2.2d DCT AWD feels like an eager puppy desperate to pull away and if you’re not careful you will be breaking the speed limit in a flash. I found it just as responsive on the country lanes and in the towns as well.

There's decent grip, with the steering light and responsive and the front-end responses on the money. With its 170 bhp 2.2-litre diesel engine, four-wheel drive system.

It’s fantastically easy to park with its 12 sensors and 360 degree view. I was showing off my parking skills whenever possible to my husband, forgetting that it had an automatic park assist (that determines if the parking area is large enough). I, of course, didn’t need this clever gadget but felt confident he would, despite his protestations to the contrary.

At motorway speeds, there is a tiny bit of noise around the driver side window, although this was just a minor niggle. Where the Q30 beats the majority of its rivals is on ride quality achieving a great level of comfort in the front.

There is room in the back for 2 maybe 3 small adults or 3 kids. However the rear seats are a little cramped, adult knees may push into the backrests in front and a midsized adult passenger would be pushed for space in the middle. But for most families with children this shouldn’t be too much of an issue.

The interior quality is high end too. To go with the leather seats, suede adorns the upper sections of the dash, door inlays and door trim inlays. However the plastic further down the dash and centre console area make this Q30 a tiny bit less fancy than some competitors in the top price range.

Infiniti's infotainment system is all functional with a lane departure warning and intelligent cruise control. The standard seven inch colour touchscreen can be controlled using a rotary dial and shortcut buttons between the front seats, DAB radio, Bluetooth and voice control feature on every model. Screen graphics are sharp with the latest connectivity, while the sat-nav comes as standard in the car we drove.

With the Q30 Infiniti can compete with this part of the market. The Q30 is comfortable , the cabin feels high in quality and there's a good level of equipment especially in Premium Tech trim. So spending money on a Q30 should now be a real consideration if you are looking for a car in this class.
