Theatre Highlights Autumn 2015

There is something to entertain the whole family at New Theatre Oxford this autumn with performances from the biggest shows out of the West End, as well as the country’s best comedians, musicians and more
Annie

Each expects to be in charge, what they don’t expect is to fall in love...

Top highlights include Hairspray (21-26 September), Stomp (13-17 October), The Bodyguard (10-21 November) and our Christmas show, Annie (15 December-3 January).

The smash-hit musical Hairspray is back on tour and Oxford audiences are guaranteed to be tapping their feet to the beat. It’s Baltimore 1962 and Tracy Turnblad, a big girl with big hair and an even bigger heart, is on a mission to dance her way on to national television. Starring Tony Maudsley (ITV’s Benidorm), Peter Duncan, Claire Sweeney and Brenda Edwards.

After wowing audiences the last time it was in the city, the phenomenon that is Stomp returns. Using everyday household items – from paint cans and pipes to bin lids and brooms – eight energetic performers fuse dance, percussion and comedy to create a feel good rhythmic spectacular.

Brit nominee and X Factor winner Alexandra Burke takes centre stage as Rachel Marron in The Bodyguard, which is based on the blockbuster film. Former Secret Service agent turned bodyguard, Frank Farmor, is hired to protect the superstar singer from an unknown stalker. Each expects to be in charge, what they don’t expect is to fall in love.

This Christmas, the world’s favourite family musical Annie comes to Oxford, starring Jodie Prenger as Miss Hannigan. Set in 1930s New York, young Annie is forced to live a life of misery and torment at Miss Hannigan’s orphanage. Determined to find her real parents, the youngster’s luck changes when she is chosen to spend Christmas at the residence of famous billionaire Oliver Warbucks.

With its award-winning book and score, this stunning new production includes the unforgettable songs ‘Hard Knock Life’, ‘Easy Street’ and ‘Tomorrow’ – you can bet your bottom dollar you’ll love it.

The autumn 2015 brochure is out now and available to pick up from the theatre and various outlets around Oxford.

Other shows featured include Jesus Christ Superstar (28 September-3 October), Michael Palin – The Thirty Years Tour (18 October), Harry Enfield and Paul Whitehouse: Legends! (25 October), Welsh National Opera (5-7 November), Will Young (24 November), Horrible Histories (1-5 December), Last Night A DJ Saved My Life ( 26-30 January) and Chicago (12-20 February)
