Velvet Eccentric Prepare for Winter
Make yourself a hot chocolate, chuck another log on the fire and snuggle down under that throw
So what can we do to make our homes the place to be this season? Easy. There is so much sumptuous and glamorous interior decoration options available that there is a wealth to choose from.
For me the key to a successful home during these gloomier months is lighting. Indulge ourselves with a variety of warm lights to layer the room in an array of dramatic shadows. Glowing lamps, twinkling scented candles, and a log fire and the mood is instantly set – it’s time to get cosy!
Pick your light bulbs carefully and use that dimmer switch because there is nothing guaranteed to kill the atmosphere of a room more than stark, over illumination.
There are some amazing lamps and pendant lights on the market at the moment. Indeed Decorex last month showcased endless examples but my favourites were some incredible glass pendants from Rothschild and Bickers. They prove that it is certainly time to start thinking outside the box when it comes to lighting up your home.
So we’ve set the mood, now all we need to do is compliment it with fabrics in rich hues and textures and the scene is complete. Add some heavy duty, woollen throws on the sofa and replace lighter weight cushions with some more dramatic velvets and weaves in deeper tones.
At Velvet Eccentric we pride ourselves on the variety of bespoke cushions we can offer, and it is such a low budget and easy way to help change the feel of a room.
Another real winner for me at the moment is the selection of metallic fabrics on offer. These can bring a room alive with their reflective properties and will immediately brighten up any dull corner. A particular favourite is Aurelia, in the Harlequin Leonida collection. It is an absolute stunner and comes in a selection of colours. Marry together these shimmering fabrics and twinkling lights with a clever use of mirrors, either as one large statement piece or make a feature wall out of a selection, and you just won’t want to leave the sofa, and why should you?
Just make yourself a hot chocolate, chuck another log on the fire and snuggle down under that throw. Winter is coming, so we may as well make the best of it. Enjoy!
